Is it really worth it?
“Hey! Katrina! What
were the numbers again?” As always, Kristine was excited and cheerful. She was
my best friend since I was in kindergarten. She’s so affable and saccharine
and always, always soenthuse
about everything. I love her just the way she is.
“10, 14, 24, 5 and 21.
Why?”
“whoa.” She was really
amazed by what she was seeing, surprised that she was all speechless about this
matter. Then she turned her face to me like it was going to burst into happiness.
“What’s the matter?
It’s not like I won the lottery or something?” She looked at me and her eyes
are becoming bigger than ever.
“Hey! Quit it! Why are
you staring at me like that? Seriously, you’re creeping me out.”
“But it’s true”
Kristine’s so strange, is she bonafide
or something? So cheerful.
“What is true?”
“You won!”
“I what? I don’t like those
kind of jokes stop it now, before I get angry here.”
“Well, I am not joking!
This face of an angel is joking?! How dare you tell me that?”
“then what are you
saying then?”
“Come here, I’ll show
you. The rapporteur in the TV
said it himself. Now carefully, look at the tv’s screen. What numbers do you
see?”
“you expect me to see
something when the tv is not even on? You stepped on the remote, you idiot.”
“Huh? I did?”
“Yes. So, now, I’m going to
open it myself.” As I open the tv, numbers that were familiar to me before
appeared to my eyes.
“Hey aren’t these..?” my
voice was trembling from saying the words myself.
“Yes! You won! You won!” she said as she
jumped and jumped all over our small bedroom.
“I can’t believe this.
Is this really happening?”
“Yes! Just look at that!
You won almost 50 Million Pesos! You’re rich!” I just can’t believe it. this
and that, all happening to me at once. Is this true? In my mind words like “I’m
rich?” was all i can think about. This is just so great! All of this
Happenings!
“Kristine! Get ready
now, were going out. Leave the champagne
there. C’mon!”
“Huh, why?” she was a
little confused, as usual. She’s a little slow when it comes to these things.
“We’re going to shop!” I
sounded like an actress in a vaudeville.
I actually want to have a vagabond
life but when it comes to shopping, no one can stop me. Oh wait, I’ll go to my
favourite coiffeur and coiffeuse later for my hair.
“What? Are you kidding
me? We haven’t claimed your prize yet.”
“Hello? It’s 50 Million.
We’ll just use my credit card for a while.” I said as I smirk. “don’t worry
it’s all my treat.”
“But don’t waste it
okay? Buy only the things you are going to use.”
“I know. Don’t worry.”
“But, I know you. Once
you go shopping. You can’t stop yourself.”
“Stop blabbering
nonsense. Come on, let’s go now.” I said as I grab her after changing our
clothes.
“Come on! Let’s go there!” I told
Kristine as we went to a clothing store. Kristine and I both bought so many
things. I think we almost spent 500,000 in just that. This is the first time
I’ve ever felt this Happiness.
“Hey, aren’t you
spending too much money?’
“It’s fine! I have
lots of money, I can spend it all as long as I want.”
“There you go again!
And later you’ll be full of debts again!”
“How can I have debts
when I have 50 million pesos?”
“Stop already buying voguish things! You should only
use your money on important things, or you can invest it on some business!”
“Why do you even care?
Are you my mother or something? Stop controlling my life! It’s my life so, I
should be the one who’s supposed to be controlling it.”
“But, I don’t want you
to repeat the same mistakes you made in your past!”
“You’re just jealous of
me! For I am already rich! And you? You’re still poor and impecunious.”
“You are rich! But your
personality is very bad!
“How dare you! I
thought you were my friend!”
“I am your friend! But I don’t know if you
think of me as one.”
“Fine!Adieu! Go away! You always walk out when we’re having
fights! You’re the crass one!”
How dare she do that to me? After all we’ve been through. She’s my only best friend but shefugue me like that and went to
the allee across the
foodcourt. Fine! I don’t Care anymore! As long as I’m rich I’m fine! She means absolute to me.
“Oh My! What’s that?An attar! It’s condign with this dress! Oh, that cheap? I’ll Buy it.”
“Oh, you want to buy
this bag? Are you going to use cash or credit card?”
“Credit card, actually
I won the lottery, and now I’m spending my money.”
“Oh, the latest winners of
lottery?”
“What do you mean winners? I’m the only
winner!”
“No. I think there
were 50 or 60 winners. I watched it earlier that’s why I know. Wait, don’t tell
me you don’t know that and been spending all of it?”
“I can’t believe it.”
Is what I’m hearing true? Then I only won 1,000,000 pesos or less? But, I
already spent 1,000,000 or more! No! this can’t be happening.
“I think you should
claim your prize first before shopping this many, huh?,Heh.”
“Fine. I’ll come back for
that bag!” This is the first time in my whole life that someone such as a
saleslady can humiliate me like that! Wait! I know! I’ll go get my money.
“Here I am, *sigh* I
need to be allay. “ “Excuse me? I won the lotto earlier, um, how
many people won also?”
“Oh that.” The girl with
patois, bowed as obeisance. “ there were many
people who won. I think there were 42 people, oh 43, including you.”
“Oh no.There’s already no impasse. Because of this I lost
my best friend I shouldn’t have done this. Now I lost everything. “
